'Remember The Titans' coach to speak at Darton State

ALBANY, GA – The famous football coach chronicled in the 2000 Disney film Remember the Titans starring Academy Award winning actor Denzel Washington will be speaking at Darton State College.

Herman Boone will be speaking at Darton’s Distinguished Lecture Series Wednesday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Boone’s speech titled “Becoming a Titan in Tough Times" will be in the Student Center in room 266.

Coach Boone is a former American high school football coach, and most famous for coaching at the newly integrated T.C. Williams High School.

Panthers championship parade to start on Pine Avenue

ALBANY, GA – News release from the Albany Panthers

The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) 2012 Champion Albany Panthers (12-2) will hold a Championship Parade on Wednesday, July 4th at 5pm.

The parade will start on Pine Avenue by the Albany Herald Building and end at the Amphitheater on Front Street.

The Panthers captured its second championship, June 30th on Phoebe Field at the Albany James H. Gray Civic Center.

Adult softball registration at Tift Park

ALBANY, GA – The men’s and women’s softball league registration for the Albany Recreation and Parks Department   will start Tuesday, May 1 and end Friday, June 1.

Ten regular season games will be played at Gordon Sports Complex beginning June 11th along with a single elimination End-of-Season Tournament.  

Registration will be at the Recreation and Parks Administrative Office located at 1301 North Monroe Street.

The office is open Monday - Friday from 8:30 am until 5 p.m.

Summer swim lessons will be offered in 4 sessions throughout the summer.

Swim lessons are available for registered participants only and are taught by Albany Recreation & Parks certified instructors.

Lesson fees are $10 per participant per session (8 classes).

Session 1: June 11 – June 21

Session 2: June 25 – July 6 (no class on July 4)

Session 3: July 9 – July 19

Session 4: July 23 – Aug 2

Class times are:

9:15 – 10:00am

10:15 – 11:00am

Panthers to host all Youth Indoor Football games at civic center

ALBANY, GA - News release from the City of Albany

Albany Recreation & Parks, in collaboration with the Albany Panthers, will host all Youth Indoor Football (YIFL) games at the Albany Civic Center on Friday nights and Saturday mornings before all Panthers home football games.

The game schedule is as follows: April 20, April 21, April 27, April 28, May 11, May 12, June 1 and June 2, 2012.

Friday night games begin at 6:00pm. Saturday morning games begin at 9:00am.

All games are free and open to the public.

Darton to host annual Go Global Run and Walk

ALBANY, GA – Darton College will hold their third annual Go Global run/walk Saturday, April 14 at 8:30 a.m. at the Darton College tennis pavilion.

The registration fee will be $20 before March 20 and $23 after March 31.

All donations and proceeds from this event will go towards student scholarships.

All participants can register online by clicking here or print out a flyer here and register by mail.

Panthers single game tickets on sale

ALBANY, GA – News release from Albany Panthers

The 2011 defending champion Albany Panthers announced that single-game tickets for the 2012 season are on sale now.  

Tickets are available for all six regular season home games on Phoebe Field at the Albany James H. Gray Civic Center.  All six home games will be played on Saturdays at 7:30PM

Tickets can be purchased at the civic center box office Monday through Friday (10AM - 6PM) and on home game days or online at www.ticketmaster.com.  Tickets prices are $12, $16, $20, $26, $30 and $50.
